This rare 1979 Lotus Esprit S2 is in truly outstanding original condition and has just been professionally re-commissioned by a leading UK Lotus specialist.
For the last 33 years, this classic ‘Giugiaro’ designed Esprit, has been carefully stored and maintained as part of a private family collection, however due to a bereavement the Lotus was recently sold. Whilst in the family collection, it only completed 18,000 miles since 1985, which is all documented along with the early service records.
Made famous by the ‘Bond’ movie ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’, the Lotus Esprit was introduced in 1976, its supercar looks and ‘James Bond’ fame made it a ‘pin-up’ poster sensation worldwide. In 1978 Lotus launched the Esprit S2, with a much improved interior, Lotus designed ‘Speedline’ wheels, a wrap-around front spoiler to provide better high-speed stability and a set of ‘ducts’ to improve the air-flow to the engine.
Only 455 ‘Home-market’ Esprit S2’s were ever built and this car is one of only two produced in the highly desirable specification of: ‘Monaco White’ paintwork with full ‘Champagne’ leather seats and trim (Lotus option) and Air-Conditioning (Lotus option). A detailed ‘Lotus Provenance Certificate’ and unique vehicle search data is supplied with the car.
The recent re-commissioning work included: Full ‘C’ Service (the most comprehensive), new replacement cam belt and tensioner, new distribution belts, new distributor, rotor arm and ignition leads, all filters, oils and fluids changed, carburettors removed and fully serviced by PNM Engineering with new Dellorto kit, all 4 brake callipers removed and refurbished by PNM Engineering and new pads fitted, new clutch master cylinder, water pump removed and refurbished, new tyres and full car inspection and preparation for M.O.T.
Very rarely do we find cars in such amazing original condition, with its high specification and desirable colour combination, this S2 Esprit has to be one of the finest examples available, ideal as an investment or for a private collector’s portfolio.
